Scott Miller is serving as acting Associate Principal for the 06-07 school year. Previously retired, he returned to IHS to take over Claudette James’s position, after she left to fill a job at Dewitt Middle School.
At the end of the 2005-2006 school year, Jamie Thomas left the post of Assistant Principal at Dewitt Middle School. In August, Miller was contacted and asked to fill the position. He agreed and started off the school year at Dewitt.
However, in mid-October, Miller was shuffled around the ICSD again. He was contacted by Dr. Judith Pastel and asked to take a job at Fall Creek Elementary for a week. After that, he was notified by Principal Joe Wilson that he would need to fill in James’ position as Associate Principal at IHS. Miller commented that he had “subbed in just about every department at IHS,” and was very familiar with the school.
Miller is performing typical AP duties, such as watching the cafeteria at lunchtime and dealing with students who have broken rules.
Before moving to Ithaca, Miller served as principal of a small school for nine years. He also worked as a Social Studies teacher in Syracuse on the junior and senior high school level, later going on to serve on the Syracuse City School administration. He has worked in Onondaga, Oswego, and Cayuga Counties.
Miller moved to Ithaca when his wife got a position as Principal of South Hill Elementary School. After his retirement, Miller decided to stay in Ithaca.
Miller expressed a positive outlook about his stay so far at IHS. “I’ve enjoyed my opportunity to interact with the students and staff—they’re a very special group.”
In the past few years, he has been busy supervising student teacher placements for Ithaca and the surrounding areas and umpiring high school girls’ softball. In his free time, he and his wife enjoy going on vacation cruises.
