On Tuesday, May 16, voters passed the Ithaca City School District (ICSD)’s 86.85 million dollar budget and placed candidates Deborah O’Connor, Carol Warshawsky, and Jay True in seats on the Board of Education (BoE).
This year’s budget represents a 4.94 percent increase in spending over last year’s budget and a 4.7 percent increase in the tax levy. According to an article in the Ithaca Journal, there were 2,134 votes in support of the budget and 1,425 against it.
For the coming year, three positions on the BoE opened up as the terms of Roger Richardson, First Vice President Deborah O’Connor, and President Roy Dexheimer came to a close. O’Connor was the only BoE member to choose to run for reelection.
Six candidates campaigned for the three opening positions: Elizabeth Kunz, Allen Lambert, O’Connor, True, Warshawsky, and Stel Walton Whitehead.
