ICSD Bond Project Moves Forward - By William G.
Ithaca City School District (ICSD) bond project construction began at IHS this summer with the construction of permanent bathrooms on the athletic fields and the installation of FieldTurf in the Joe Moresco Stadium. The new features are replacing the portable toilets and grass, respectively.
Ed R. Replaces Santoro - By Maddie H.
Ed R. ‘77, the former Dean of Students and Athletic Director in the Lansing Central School District, was hired using the new “fast-track” pre-employment process for administrators to replace Greg Santoro as an Assistant Principal at IHS.
Families in Pairs Program Returns to IHS - By Eva G.
The Families in Pairs Program returns to IHS this September for its first full year. Program sessions are held from 10:25 to 11:25 a.m. each Tuesday when small groups of families with children that have gone, are going, or will go to IHS meet at the high school to walk through the halls, sit in the cafeteria and quad, and visit each other informally. The program was started and is currently directed by Instructional Specialist for Educational Equity, Barry Derfel.
Third Time may be a Charm for Link Crew - By Michaela S.
Link Crew, a high school transition program, is about to begin its third year at IHS under the guidance of Photography and Art teacher Judy Cogan and English teacher Kelly Metzler. For many students, high school can be challenging as they are faced with both social and academic challenges. Most students, no matter how clever or socially secure they are, need support in some form, and thus Link Crew aims to offer this support with a system that uses the leadership skills of upperclassmen to form academic and social connections with incoming freshmen.
Lynn Becomes New Tattler Adviser - By Matt S.
The Tattler welcomes its new faculty adviser, Physics teacher Deborah Lynn. This is her first time overseeing a “regularly published newspaper,” though she has previously been both involved in smaller publishing projects and has advised an extracurricular activity (Astronomy Club).
New York State Replaces Standardized Math Tests - By Eva G.
In 2006 the New York State (NYS) Board of Regents voted to revise “graduation requirements, units of credit, and types of diplomas.” This change included the replacement of the Math A and Math B exams with Integrated Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra 2/Trigonometry exams. The new exams were first administered in September 2007 and will fully replace the old exams by September 2009.
